About Blue Hour Lighting

Jarod and Jen Halstead started Blue Hour Lighting in Fishkill, New York, and still run it today with their crew of four. That same crew handles every project from start to finish, from the first sketch to the night they stand in your yard aiming the last fixture. Most new clients find us through a landscape architect, a designer, or a neighbor whose house caught their eye at dusk. The blue hour is the stretch just after sunset when the sky still holds color and a well-lit house looks its best.

We Think About the Landscape First

Blue Hour Lighting was founded in 2019 as a dedicated lighting and outdoor audio specialist, and that’s been our only focus ever since. Before ever aiming a light, our team learned to read a landscape, understanding how a property changes and grows over time.

That perspective still shapes how we work today. Every fixture and speaker gets placed according to how your landscape will look in years to come.

Meet Jarod

Jarod Halstead studied landscape design at Rutgers, holds an associate’s degree in electrical engineering, and spent twenty years laying stone before turning to lighting full-time. He’s a certified outdoor lighting designer through AOLP, with additional certifications from CAST Lighting and Infinity Lighting, attending trade shows and training each year to stay current.
That mix of experience means your project gets handled by someone who understands the design, the electrical, and the stonework not just one piece of it.

What Goes Into a Blue Hour Landscape Lighting Installation

Every project starts with a free on-site visit and becomes an architectural-grade plan. We create a diagrammed layout to show you exactly where each light goes, which way it aims, and what the work covers. Nothing gets ordered until you approve, so you’re never paying for guesswork.

Our own crew handles every installation, including when the project includes audio. Lighting that runs through stonework or woodwork can easily mean juggling three separate vendors. With Jarod and his team, it’s one vendor, not three. That means fewer delays, fewer scheduling headaches, and one person accountable for the whole job.

Outdoor Lighting, Hardscape Lighting & Outdoor Audio

Blue Hour Lighting covers installs, additions, upgrades, and service for the following:

Landscape lighting

Facade, tree, garden, path, walkway, and safety lighting that transform the property after dark.

Hardscape lighting

Light built into patios, pool decks, driveways, walls, steps, and pillars is recessed so the fixture disappears and only the light shows.

Outdoor audio

Sonance systems have subwoofers buried in the lawn and zones you run from your phone, so sound reaches every corner without a single obvious speaker.

Smart controls

Zone-by-zone settings and Lutron systems, tied into Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Savant, Control4, or Crestron, so scenes and schedules run themselves.
Commercial and HOA lighting
Lighting-level checks, insurance compliance reviews, and return on investment estimates on energy-efficient LEDs, documented and ready to file.

Designing an Outdoor Space You Will Use After Dark

The goal is simple. We want you to feel drawn outside in the evening and sure of your footing on every step. Safety comes first, so grade changes, pool edges, and long driveways are always part of the plan from the start.
The rest is about how the house looks, and that takes restraint. Too much light flattens a garden and washes the color out of the planting. The difference between good and harsh often comes down to a quarter turn on a fixture, and you can only see it after dark. That’s why we wait until sundown to do the fine-tuning.

Working With Your Landscape Architect or Designer

Much of our work arrives on projects somebody else already designed, and we like it that way.
We work according to the plan we’re given and position fixtures against the planting, so every fixture serves the design. Wire is routed around root plates, and when hardscape is part of the project, we sleeve it during construction so wire can run through cleanly later. When the hardscape’s already there, we core through it carefully.
We take small residential jobs and large commercial ones. Jarod also travels for high-end outdoor weddings that need lighting.

Where We Work

Blue Hour Lighting is based in Fishkill and covers Dutchess, Westchester, and Rockland Counties, plus Greenwich, Connecticut. We do not work in New Jersey, the Bronx, or New York City. Westchester is our busiest area, and the work runs from a single front-yard scheme to a full estate system.

What Happens After the Installation

Every landscape lighting installation includes a one-year workmanship warranty, and many fixtures carry lifetime factory warranties, though it varies by product. Most clients stay on a maintenance plan after that. Weather eventually finds its way into any system, so two visits a year keep the design working as intended.
